LOCAL CELEBRATIONS.
To-day is Arbor Day, but no official celebration of the day will.take place NSfoccasion will be commemorated at the Gisborne School by the planting of a number of trees and shrubs and a number of the native plants will bore- . 3 Q E. Darton will give a short talk on ‘‘Nature Study” to the children, and the proceedings are to take the nature of instruction rather than demonstration. It had originally been intended to have a similar function at the Haiti Sol, but owing to the soddon natoro of a portion of the ground and its consequent unsuitability for planting trees and shrubs, the ceremony has been P °Tlie "celebrations at the Mangapapa School will take office to-morrow aiternoon, commencing at 2 P-m.- Short addresses will he given to the children 1,l Mr. G. Brown, and probably Mr G E Darton. after which a number ot macrocarpas,' gum trees, and rose trees will be planted xn the school grounds. CELEBRATIONS IN CANTERBURY. {Ppii I’HP.FP ASSOCIATION CHRISTCHURCH, July 20. Sixtv schools in North Canterbury propose to celebrate Arbor Day by tree-planting mostly m their oun grounds.
