Broadbent 0 for 24, Haigh 0 for 21. Bardsley and Hopkins opened tie Australian innings, Hirst and Newstead being the opening bowlers. After missing him at seven, Hunter gathered in Hopkins at the Avickets for 1 for 29. Ransford, Avho avos never at ease went the same Avay when he had scored 11; 2 for 53. The half-century Avas reached in 50 minutes’ play. Bards-, ley Avas shaping excellently, Avith good leg hitting. Noble joined him, and there Avas a spell of lively cricket until it ended by Noble being caught at slip off Rhodes, who., had displaced Hirst, the third wicket failing for 95. Gregory assisted to bring the century up in 95 minutes, an easy cateli at slips disposing of him ; 4 for 107. Armstrong filled the A'acancy. Both batsrnen showed' fine form. Bardsley, by clever playing and fine cuts, reached 50 in 109 minutes. Going on to 90 he lost his Avicket by hitting out. He batted for 175 minutes. He made some 'lucky strokes, but gave no chances. The partnership lasted 70 minutes; 5 for 192. The sixth wicket (Trumpers’) Avent just before the tea adjournment. Armstrong, by judicious play, scored 45. With the exception of Laver, the balance of the Australian batsmen shoAved little disposition to stay Avith Armstrong. There Avere seven Avickets down for 220. NcAA-stead disposed of Carter and Cotter in the same over, the Avickets falling, eight for 230, and nine for 236. LaA r er hit one six to square leg. Armstrong .exhibited admirable and steady play. He batted for 155 minutes.
Yorkshire, in ,tlm second innings, has lost no wickets for 19 runs.

The Australians’ innings lasted -255 minutes, the second century taking 185 minutes. Bardsley’s score included 10 and Armstrong’s 4 fourers. Ransford and Armstrong to-day completed their 1 000 runs for the season.
THE “HAT TRICK.”
LONDON, July 20. (Received July 21, 5.15 p.m.) Tarrant, the ex-Victorian, playing against Surrey, took 6 wickets for 29 runs out of a total of 206. He took the last 5 Avickets for 12 runs, including the “hat trick.”
