POVERTY BAY HUNT CLUB
The annual races of the Poverty Bay Hunt Club are to take place on the Gisborne Racing Club’s course on August 19. The programme, which is advertised in this issue, consists of six events, two of which are open flat handicaps of five furlongs and six furlongs respectively. The others are confined to horses that have been hunted at least five times this season with any affiliated pack of hounds. They must be ridden by gentlemen riders. Entries will close on August 7, those for the hunt events with the lion, secretary (Mr. AV. G. Sherratt), and those for tlie open events with Mr. 11. E. Dodd, at his office. The weights will be declared on August 14. Mr. M. Kingston will officiate as judge, Mr. C. J. Bennett as handicapper, Air. R. Sherratt as starter, Mr. C. Hamilton as clerk of scales, and Air. T. Sherratt as clerk of the course.

Then a steady downpour set in, but cleared while the Steeplechase was being run. The going was heavy. The attendance was good, and, the sum of £13,555 passed through the totalisator, against £12,923 for the corresponding day last year. Bookmakers contributed £l9O in fees. Te Arai headed Irish six furlongs from home, and Capitol trail into second place at the half post. The latter fell at the last fence but one, and Te Arai went on and Avon by three lengths.
