THE CAUSE OF CLEMENCEAU’S DEFEAT. MANY SUPPORTERS ABSENT. United Press Association—Copyright. (Received July 22, 11 p.m.) , PARIS, July, 22. One hundred and seventy-five French deputies were absent in Scandinavia in connection with the interparliamentary pacifist demonstration when tho Government was defeated. In consequence of the new attendance lists abolishing proxy voting, M. Clemenceau’s supporters were unable to cast the ballots of their absent comrades..
The Parisian newspapers are astonished at the crisis, and blame M. Clemenceau for referring to M. Delcasse’s foreign policy. Tho' Germani papers sharply attack M. Delcasse, and describe, his success as a victory for Chauvinism. M. Clemenceau is urging President Fallieres to reconstruct the old Cabinet, with a new Premier.-
