Mr. Asquith has announced that the Budget debate will be postponed, probably for a fortnight. The newspapers surmise that the allnight sittings arc a severe straui upon Mr. Lloyd-George, and that the delay will give an opportunity to reci/t some of the clauses of the Bill.
Only nine clauses out >.f 74 will discussed by the traditional /ate for the closing of the session.
LONDON’S SHARE OF N£W DUTIES MR. LLOYD-GEOSgE’S COMPLY NT AGAINST BREWERS. . A deputation of London Lii *' a I members of the House of Commons informed Mr. Lloyd-George that of two mulion additional duty under the Tin*nco Bill, London would pay Cc'366,2 12, and that the city only paid £ Ido,SHI out of the old duty, amounting to £2,222,000. Mr Lloyd-George complained that the brewers refused to meet him. He was willing to revalue London licenses on the basis of actual trade, and tax them accordingly. He took exception to their raising the price of beer before they had actually paid the duties, :u order to influence their customers against the Government.

Mr. Haldane presided at a banquet by the Eighty Club to Mr. Asquith, who gave an exhaustive survey of the underlying principles .of Liberalism, which, as regards the Empire, he said, secured real unity by allowing the freest, diversity and freest self-develop-ment to all its members.
