LABOR TROUBLE AT NEWCASTLE.
STOPPAGE OF THE PORT PROBABLE. STRIKE OF WATERSIDE WORKERS IMPENDING. United Press Association— Copyright. (Received July 26, 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 25.
A conference has been held at Newcastle hetween the colliery proprietors, shipping agents, and waterside workers on the question of the objection of the last-named to ships’ crews unloading ballast. It proved futile. A subsequent meeting of combined unions decided to refuse to do any further work unless an assurance was given that the crews would not he employed to unload ballast. There is a probability of shipping operations at- Newcastle being brought to a standstill to-morrow unless a> compromise is reached.
