SOUTH AFRICAN UNION.
THE LONDON CONFERENCE.
MODIFICATIONS IN THE BILL
(Received July 25, 5.5 p.m.) United Press Association— Copyright
LONDON, July 24
Modifications, agreed to in the South African* Union Bill, place matters affecting Asiatics under the control of the Governor-General, and not the Provincial Councils.
Shipowners domiciled in Great Britain are entitled to appeal to the Privy Council regarding affairs on the high seas.
The delegates-refused the British request to incorporate Customs clauses relating to native protectorates in tho Bill. These are to remain in the schedule. The delegates informed Lord Crewe that there was no reason to doubt that the liberal fiscal arrangements hitherto given to Basutoland, Bechuanaland, and Swaziland would be continued.
