WELLINGTON RACING CLUB’S MEETING.

(Per Press Association.) ■ WELLINGTON, J uly 24. There was fine weather for the concluding day of the Wellington Racing Club’s winter meeting, and a good attendance. The going was heavy. The sum of £15,638 passed through the machine., making £41,006 for the meeting, being £4301 more than last year. The "following are the results of the racing: Onslow Handicap, 130sovs, 6 furlongs. —St. Bill 11.6, 1; White Cockade 9.0, 2; Clem 9.0, 3. Also started: Sweet Angelus, Martyrium, Xongner, Toa Tulii, and Hydraulic. St. Bill led throughout, and won by half-a-length. Time, lrnin 26-3-ssec. . Crofton Handicap, lOOsovs, 7 furlongs.—Llanwern 9.0, 1; Splash 9.0, 2; Pukewai 9.7, 3. Also started: King’s Prize, Marathon, Sealer, Rawera, and 'inco. Won by two lengths. The same distance between second and third. Time, lmin 43N3-ssec. Corunna Hurdles Handicap, of 100 sovs., 1| miles.—Waione 10.2, 1; Yosami 9.0, 2; Kelso 9.0, 3? Also started: Rangihaeata, Diplomatic, and Waihuku. Won by four lengths. Time, 3min 10 4-ssec.' : ' July Steeplechase Handicap, 300sovs, 2t miles.—Te. Arai 10.10, 1; Irish 10.6, 2; Nadador 10.10, 3. Also started: Speciosa, Lingerer, and Deerslayer. Irish led for a mile and three-quarters, where. Te Arai joined him. The latter took charge half-a-mile from home, and won,by ten lengths, the same distance between second'ahd 'third.- Deerslayer fell after going six furlongs., Time, 6min 7 2-ssec. Winter Oats Handicap, 250sovs, 1 mile.—Merrie Zealand 9.13, 1; Gaelic 9.0, 2; Coronetted 9.12, 3. Also started : Sir Frisco, Wimmera, Iranui, Diamond Star, Seaman, and King Post. Merrie .Zealand took charge at the top of the straight and won by four lengths. Third horse two lengths away. . Time, lmin 57 3-ssee. Final Handicap Hurdles, 300sovs, 12miles. —Belario 9.7, 1; Rendrock 9.7, 2; Exmoor. 10.8, 3. Also started: Kairoma and Corazon. Won by half-a-length; Time, 3min 43sec. Kia Ora Handicap, lOOsovs, 6 turlongs.—Miscast 10.7, 1; Timothy 9.4, i • Rose Herald 0.0, 3. Also started: Teru Axite, Waiata, Royal Maid, and Merry Christmas. Won by a head. Time, lmin 27 3-ssec.

WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB. • WANGANUI, July 25. The annual meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club was held on Saturday night. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of over £I3OO. All the officers were re-elected.

UNREGISTERED .RACING. A conference of delegates from the various unregistered -racing clubs in the district was held at the Cosmopolitan Club on Saturday afternoon to discuss the best means of elevating the racing at unregistered meetings to a higher standard, and of keeping the sport clean from objectionable practices. Mr. Roberts occupied tho chair, and representatives of the Whatatutu, Ngawari, Muriwai, Te Arai, Mahia, and Muriwai- Maori Clubs were present. It was decided to form an Association to control the meetings held by the various clubs, to. be called the Poverty Bay Unregistered Racing Clubs’ Association, the Whatatutu Racing Club to be the ruling body, and Mr. R. A. Morphy secretary. Rules were adopted, and will be printed for sale to horse owners. The rules are stringent and, among other things, provide that all horses nominated with any club must be registered with the Association, and its color, age, and pedigree given ; that a jockey’s riding fee of 5s for flat-races and 10s for jumping races shall be. payable at the scales, the club to deduct) Is for the trouble of collection; jockeys’ licenses shall be issued by the. Association at a fee of £1 Is per annum, the licenses to be recognised by all affiliated clubs without extra charge. It is probable that a handicapper will be appointed to act for all the clubs, and racing days will be appointed at the next meeting.
