The farmers’ conference passed a resolution in favor of increasing the military forces, tho encouragement of rifle clubs, and the increase of the subsidy to the British navy with the view oi the maintenance of an efficient fleet lor the protection of the Empire. Alotions in favor ol building Australian cruisers and torpedo boats and levying graduated land and income tax, the proceeds to be devoted to increasing the subsidy to the British navy and to local t(efence were negatived. Resolutions supporting penny postage and tho Commonwealth taking over and settling tho Northern Territory, with the view of safeguarding against an Asiatic invasion, were adopted.
