A COLLIERY ..DISPUTE. [Per Puvsb .ssbocution*. AUCKLAND, July 27. The provisions of the award of the Arbitration Court in the Riripaka colliery dispute are the same in most respects as those in the previous award. The union asked to have the hewing rate increased considerably, but_ the Court did not feel justified in giving more than the rates offered by the company, which were based on the previous award. The shift wages, however, have been increased to 10s per shift. The company is to do the the trucking, or may arrange with a miner to truck his own coal up to 40 yards for not les* than 2d per ton The pillar rate remains at 2s per ton. If experience proves that it is too high the company will be justified in applying for a reduction.

SENTENCE FOR HORSE STEALING AUCKLAND, July 27. A young man named Howard Stanley Walters, who had been extradited from Sydney, and had pleaded guilty to two charges of horse stealing at Pukekolie, came up for sentence at the •Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Sim. A sentence of six months’ imprisonment- was passed. HOKITIKA HARBOR. HOKITIKA, July 27. A meeting of the Harbor Board was hold to-night to coxrsider a report by Mr. A. D. Bell, C.E., upon a- harbor improvement- scheme. The- report was very favorably received, but owing to its voluminous nature, tine Board resolved to adjourn till' the sth August, ■when the report- will receive final consider aton. The cost of the proposed scheme as recommended will be about £35,000. '
