LAW OF LIBEL.

PROTECTION TO NEWSPAPERS. A NEW SOUTH WALES AMENDING BILL. United Press Association— Copyright. • (Received July 29, 5.20 p.m.) . . SYDNEY, July 29. The State Government is introducing a Defamation Bill, to give further protection to newspapers from accumulation of punishment where a libel is put in circulation through a number of newspapers. The Court is to have power to consolidate a series of actions, so that the whole may be trie'd before one jury, which should assess the total damages. Relief is also given where a defendant could prove that damages had been given against another defendant, for a similar libel.
