There is some uncertainty whether Pilot will start for the Australian Steeplechase. It is believed the distance will be against him. He has been entered for tlic Knowsley Steeplechase, two miles, run on ‘the same day as the Australian .Steeplechase. California has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. C.J.C. GRAND NATIONAL. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. July 29. Chief Locliiel was scratched for all engagements, .at the Grand National meeting at 9 a.m. to-day. REGULATION OF BOOKMAKERS. The “Press” is authorised to state •in regard to a statement made by the •Hon. D. Buddo, that no communication whatever has been addressed by the New Zeal a nil Racing Conference to the Minister of the Interior, asking him to approve of the regulations drafted by the conference in reference to bookmakers, that no such regulations have been so drafted or submitted to the Minister. Probably tho mistake has arisen through an application by some individual racing club for approval by the Minister of its local regulations.
