ANTI-WAR RIOTS. ALL CATALONIA IN 'INSURRECTION. Uniticd Preps Association—Copyright MADRID, July 29. There is trouble in Saragossa. There have been strike riots, at Reus, Alcoy, and other places. The departure of troops avas delayed through the cutting of the railway. Three warships have been ordered to Barcelona. There is a vigorous newspaper censorship in Spain. All war news is prohibited. There was a fierce fight for an hour between rioters and the Civil Guard at Barcelona. Many persons were wounded on both sides.
Troops in. another part of tho city refused to fire on rioters who were engaged in an encounter with the police, wherein eleven were killed and fifty wounded. The troops at a later stage in another quarter of the town fired against tho barricades in the streets. The authorities are urging the use of artillery. King Alfonso has issued a proclamation, which urges peaceable citizens to remain indoors and avoid the risk of being accidentally shot. Business is at a standstill in the city, which is in darkness. All Catalonia is in insurrection. Numerous railway bridges have been destroyed. Troops have been sent to Testoro order. The authorities claim to have restored order at, Barcelona by the vigorous use of arms. The Minister for the Interior has ordered provisional governors to act without pity.
THE POSITION AT MELLILA. SAID TO BE CRITICAL. IbONDON, July 29. The Echo do Paris states that the position at Melilla is critical. The Spanish soldiery are courageous, but the officers adopt obsolete tactics, and are unaware of the first principles of African warfare. The commissariat, surgical, topographical, and ambulance departments are very inferior.
ANTI-WAR DEMONSTRATION IN MADRID. SANGUINARY FIGHTING IN BARCELONA. (Received July 30, 9.35 0.n.) MADRID, Ju’y 30. A great anti-war demonstration took place in front of the palace at Madrid, Vhere King Alfonso is staying, civilians and soldiers shouting “Down with the War.” Attacks on the Government force:.: ■at Barcelona continue.' Thirty persons
were killed at the barricades yestoidny. Five convents and sevoral housis w ere ■burned. More bridges have been destroyed by dynamite.
THE BATTLE OF MELLILA. HEAVY SPANISH LOSSES. Tuesday’s battle extended almost to tho walls of Melilla. A thousand Spaniards were killed and 1500 to 2000 wonnded. AH the soldiers in Spain who Have not been discharged from active service, and the garrisons of Burgos, Logrono, and Vittoria, who are confined to bar'racks, are held in readiness to start for 'Morocco.
