A LIQUOR CASE.

SUPPLYING A DRUNKEN MAN, (Per Press Association.’ CHRISTCHURCH, July 31. Arthur Chambers, barman at the White Hart Hotel, was to-day fined a-D by Mr. Haselden, S.M.. for supplying drink to a man already intoxicated. The magistrate said he was quite convinced that Gordon was drunk when supplied, so drunk that he had not recovered from the effects next day, and must have been palpably drunk, in the hotel. “I can only regret,” said Mr. Haselden, "that so many persons reconciled it with their consciences to swear to the contrary. It would be quite legal to convict the licensee for selling through his agent, but in this ease it would be unjust to do so. I believe Lane, the licensee, knew nothing about' the supply to Gordon, who was supplied in contraveution of Lane's orders to Chambers.” The case against Lane was dismissed.
