DOMESTIC ECONOMICS.
REPORT TO OTAGO UNIVERSITY COUNCiii. . [Per Pr.css Association.] DUNEDIN, August 2. At the Otago University Council today the committee previously appointed to devise ways and means of utilising Mr. StuQliolmo’s offer to endow a chair of domestic economics, presented their report. They found that the annual cost would be £7OO, nominally, £6OO for salary and £IOO for contingencies. Towards this there would be available Mr. Studhoime’s contribution of £2OO and the Government subsidy thereon of a like amount. They undertake to raise the remaining £3OO on the understanding that it would also carry a Government subsidy of a like amount. They would also undertake t© furnish £IOO, of which half should be subsidised, to enable the teacher to be appointed to travel before coming to Now Zealand, and also to raise- £75. which, with the subsidy would make £l5O, for equipping a room, if one were given for the purpose. The contributions to be for four years. The committee promised to further the proposed scheme by their personal influence. Tho Council decided to consider the proposal at a special meeting next week.
