THE UNEMPLOYED.
THE POSITION IN WELLINGTON
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 3. A return prepared by the- secretary of tho Citizens’ Unemployed Relief Committee shows that 280 men have been placed on relief and other works provided by the committee, 60 having obtained other employment since registration with the .secretary; 60 have made no further appearance since registration was made, and 50 have been, erased from the register on account of non-residence in Wellington, duplication of registration, intoxication, or other reason. The foregoing statement accounts for 450 men, leaving 150 still eligible for employment and as yet unprovided for. Further works are to he taken in hand. Any money voted by the Citizens’ Committee will enable most of those now out of work to obtain employment. The citizens’ relief fund has reached a total of £ISOO. Bands which are subsidised by the City Council are to be asked to organise a demonstration in. aid of the relief fund.
