A. AND P. ASSOCIATIONS.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. • ■ (Por> Press Association.) , . WELLINGTON, Aiigust 3. The annual conference of A. and if. Societies of New Zealand opened this morning. There was a very t large attendance of delegates. Mr. J. G. Wilson presided. In presenting his ad cress, Mr. Wilson gave an outline of tlie work of the past year: He said some difficulty had been experienced in getting the motions passed by 'the- last conference put into effect, owing to the unwieldy personnel of the committee. The conference had sent out some thousands of queries on the subject of grasses 'to ascertain what varieties had proved best throughout New Zealand. The results would be laid before tlie conference at a Jater stage. As he was not now taking any active part in tlie management of any A. and P. Association, ho would like to give prominence to one or two matters which wore of groat importance to the agricultural and pastoral community—the question of agricultural education and tlie need for tlie establishment of a school of veterinary science. - Mr. Wilson also referred to tlie Meteorolo- < gical Journal, the publication of which the Government has discontinued on the score of expense. He hoped better counsels will prevail. Tho president reviewed the frozen meat trade on the lines of his address to the Farmers’ Union last week, and lie had something further to sav oil the question of cooperating with a view to feeding tho market in Great Britain judiciously. Why should not a Freezing Companies’ Association be formed, and a committee appointed to regulate trade? He was almost forced to the conclusion that, there was something else other than mere supply, and demand at work, and to counteract the American move (if it existed) combination was the only weapon.
