ATHLETICS.

N.Z. -AMATEUR ASSOCIATION. IPkii Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 3. A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night. It. G. Anderson forwarded £23, which had been collected in Dunedin to send It. G. McIvnight (three miles) to Brisbane as a member of the New Zealand team for. the Australasian championship meeting. It was stated that the amount was more than necessary. The balance could be devoted to -the general expenses of the tour. C. E. Bridge wrote, accepting the position of manager to the New Zealand representative team. The Auckland Amateur Athletic Club forwarded a donation of £ls 'towards the expenses of the team. A similar sum was sent by the Otago and Wellington centres. The Council had suggested to F. Leslie Murray, of Christchurch, that he should persuade A. St. A. Murray to go to Brisbane to compete in the 440 yards’ hurdles. A reply was received that Murray could not possibly make arrangements to accompany the team. S. W. Moore (Ashburton) wrote, intimating that he was going to Brisbane to compete at the championship meeting (probably in the three miles and the Marathon). The secretary reported thaty Moore had left by the Ulimaroa on Friday last for Sydney, where he will meet the New Zealand team. The Australasian Union notified-that in view of the special circumstances surrounding the ,running of the Marathon races at Aslibruton and Auckland, the executive bad resolved that the amate'ur status of competitors in these events shall not be affected, notwithstanding the rule that no prize for a race shall exceeed £lO in value. There was some discussion on a suggestion from the Wellington centre that it be a recommendation to the New Zealand delegates to the Brisbane conference to support a motion to alter rule 21, making it legal for a prize of a higher value than £lO to be offered for a Marathon race. The maximum value suggested was £25. It was decided to give uo such instruction, the Council being of opinion that a £lO prize was enough for any event. The"’ delegates were instructed to support the suggestion of Tasmania that in future all Australasian championship meetings be held in summer months. The New Zealand entries for the Australasian championship meeting are as follows: Gerald P. Keddeli, running high jump, running broad jump, '121) yards, and 440 yards hurdles; H. E.
