AERONAUTICS.

BRITISH ARMY EXPERIMENTS. MR. HALDANE’S USUAL OPTIMISM. United Press Association —-Copyright. / LONDON, August 3. Experiments with Wright’s aeroplane will bo started at Aldershot shortly. Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr R. B. Haldane, Minister of War, stated that Vickers, Sons and Maxim are constructing a very large dirigible airship of the Zeppelin type for the Admiralty, capable of carrying 20 persons. The army would shortly have three non-rigid airships, including that obtained through the “Morning Post’s” efforts. The Estimates would enable the Admiralty to spend £35,000 and the Army £36,000 in the coming year.

Replying to the criticism of tho Op : position that Great Britain was behind other nations in such matters, Mr Haldane explained that flying machines were very simple, and it was impossible to keep the designs a secret. Therefore there was no cause for anxiety. ,
