The enter-tainment-was brought to an abrupt conclusion, but at the ball and the social gathering bicycle and kerosene lamps ■were requisitioned and used temporarily to disnel the enforced gloom. By 11 o’clock the supplv was again sufficiently strong to allow the lights to bo relit, but many fjeople had gone home from both functions.
