CHARGE OF PERJURY.
YOUNG MAN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 6. The charge of perjury preferred against the young man Percy James Reynolds was heard in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr. W. F. Riddell, S.M., to-day. The alleged offence was that, during the hearing of a charge of assault stated to have been committed by Reynolds on Frank Johnson, accused swore: “I was married to Florrie Wylllio about Christmas, 3908. We were married at a house, No. 5, Dixon Street. I can’t say who married us. I still sav I am legally married to Florence Wyllie.” Evidence as to tne accused’s statements in tho witness box was submitted by Constable Jones, Court orderly, and Sergeant Dale. A written statement was produced by Sub-Inspector Norwood, in which the accused said that he had falsely syorn in order to protect the girl. Evidence was also given bv Mr. G. G. Hodkins, Registrar of Births, Marriages, andDeaths, that no such marriage a stated had been registered. Accused, who was represented by Mr. W. P. Jackson, pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was fixed in one surety of £3O.
