BRITISH IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.

LONDON, August 10. British imports in July increased by £3,547,000, and exports increased by £1,791,000. Re-exports increased by £1,063,000 compared with July last.

REPORT OF WHISKY COMMISSION
The Royal Commission on whisky reports that the evidence has failed to establish that any particular variety of whisky is specially deleterious. Neither medical and hospital nor distillery evidence showed that pot-still whisky was necessarily more wholesome than pa-tent-still spirit.
THE ATLANTIC PASSAGE—SHORTENING THE JOURNEY. The Cunard liners from' this month onwards will land passengers and mails at Fishguard, Pembrokeshire. [This course will have the effect of shortening • considerably the journey between London and New York, and will be a serious blow to Liverpool, where the Atlantic liners have hitherto called.]
ARREST OF BANK FORGERS. NAPLES, August 10. Eighteen notorious bank forgers have been arrested at Naples. Thirty thousand forged Brazilian notes were seized.
MARBLE DEPOSITS IN VICTORIA
MELBOURNE, August 11. The Government Geologist’s report states that the existence of deposits of valuable marble is fully proven. The localities all lie to the east of Melbourne, and are widely scattered.
BRITISH SETTLERS IN NEW HEBRIDES. The Federal Government has decided to come to the assistance of AustralianBritish settlers in theJNew Hebrides, and .to place the services of a legal expert at their disposal in connection with land claims.
FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT
(Received August 12, 12.10 a.m.) LONDON, August 11. Owing to the expansion of the rails by the sun’s Feat, an express train was derailed near Staleybridge. Two persons were killed and ten injured.

RHODESIAN GOLDFIELDS

Glowing accounts have reached Bulawayo concerning the “blanket” formation discovered in the Abercorn district of .Rhodesia. It resembles the formation on the Rand, and extends six miles.
