HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE—PATHE

PICTURE

In answer to invitation about 150 townspeople were present at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening to witness a preparatory exhibition of a number of the pictures to be shown at the theatre this evening. Being a trial performance, perfection was not expected, but anything in the way of “living pictures” clearer or better than was given last night it would be hard to imagine. The pictures were flickerless, tho light was powerful, and tho electrical mechanism worked to perfecThe first picture shown, “In the Land of the Pharaohs ” was interestino- and instructve, showing customs and habits in Egypt. These pictures, descriptive of other lands, are always amongst the cream of picture show entertainments, and “In the Land of the Pharaohs” was well worthy of being placed amongst the best. “Tlie Bridge of Sighs” was a film of great beauty and pathos, not overdrawn, but with enough draiyatic force to engage the interest of the spectators. A highly attractive film was “The Cowboy and the Songstress,” giving a realistic display of rough riding and rope manipulating for which the American cowboy pictured in the novel of the west is famous. Samples of humorous pictures which the company intend showing were given, and should meet witn heartv approval, as the two exhibited, “The Non-stop Motor Cycle and “The Magic Album” arc of the best) qU Hi?
