ENTERTAINMENTS.

PATHE PICTURES—HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.

Unfortunately for the large _ crowd that filled His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, there was a mishap te the engine and dynamo installed by tho management of the Patho Pictures, and the cinematograph entertainment had. to be postponed until to-night, when the management will have everything ready for the pictures to bo shown. After the overture- had been played last night, Mr. W. Miller, on behalf of Mr. Hayward, announced that the management, having promised that the entertainment te be given would he quite up to the standard of the metropolitan towns, were determined to keep faith with the 'public, but owing to an accident to the plant they would he unable that night to produce the quality of picture they desired, and had decided to postpone the opening till the following evening, when they would guarantee to satisfy all patrons. Mr. Miller further announced that all who had paid for admission would have their money returned, and the management would be pleased to give a free show to any of Hie audience who cared to wait until the mishap to the engine was repaired. After the promoters had returned the money or presented every person in the theatre with a coupon entitling a refund, some three or four bundled ‘of the audience waited, and at 9 o’clock were delighted to hear the puff of the engine. The operator, Mr. Pearson, soon had a spool of films in motion,-and tho audience were rewarded for their long wait by witnessing some of the finest pictures over shown in Gisborne.

The entertainment will be given in full to-night without fail, when there should be a crowded house. There will bo a matinee for children to-morrow afternoon, and also another performance to-morfow evening.
