THE SCOW FLORA FATALITY
VERDICT OF MANSLAUGHTER AGAINST THE MASTER.

The adjourned inquest concerning the death o.f Frederick Clark, the sailor who was drowned when the scow Flora foundered in Auckland Harbor recent r ly, was brought to a close this afternoon. The jury returned a verdict that the master of the Flora was responsible for the deceased’s death in leaving for Hellier’s, Bay with too much cargo aboard, and not throwing more shingle overboard when he found that the vessel was toe deeply laden. A.rider was added urging upon the Marine Department the importance of compelling all vessels of not more than five tons register to carry a load-line, and the necessity for more care in carrying out tlie regulations with regard to the lifesaving apparatus to be carried on vessels. The master of the Flora, Thomas Dowd, will appear at the Court tomorrow on a charge of manslaughter.
