CAPTIVE BALLOON USED BY SPANISH TROOPS.
ITALIAN BALLOON CROSSES MONT BLANC. Uniticd Pit ess Association— Copyright LONDON, August 11. A captive balloon is proving exceedingly useful to the Spanish forces in the operations against the Moors at Melilla.
Spelterini’s baUoon, “Sirius”, crossed Mount Blanc range from Chamouni, and descended near Lacarno. It travelled 100 miles, and went over 18,000 feet high. Tho temperature -was 58 degrees below zero. The balloon was a day and a half in the air.

(Received August 12, 11.55 p.m.) LONDON, August 12.
Mr. S. E. Cody, in a new design of aeroplane, made three successful flights at Aldershot, one of a mile and a-half, at a speed of 30 miles an hour. The motor and steering apparatus worked well.
