MILE RACE.'

A mile race for a stake of £3OO was run between M. Griffen and J. Sexton at Mr. Geo. Witters’ paddock, Makauri, yesterday afternoon. The two pedestrians had previously tried conclusions over a similar distance on the ■/ictoria Domain, when Sexton won, and a law case ensued for the recovery of a portion, of the stake Yesterday afternoon Sextcn conceded Griffen 20 yards start, and the latter getting promptly off the mark, wen by six yards, in 4min 43 4-ssec. Mr. George Ball acted as starter, and there was a largo crowd present to witness the race. The stake was paid over to the winner immediately the race was tinished. ’ Mr. W.
