POVERTY BAY TEAM AT NAPIER.

(Special to “Times.”) NAPIER, August 12. The members of the Poverty Bay ,go! I".team, after a rough passage down, were met -on arrival at the' wharf this morning by Mr. H. Appleby, lion, secretary of the Napier Golf Club, and Mr. N. Kettle, and were- driven to the Caledonian Hotel, where they are comfortably installed. The visitors were driven by drag and cars at 10 o’clock to the Waioluki links. The Ruahino ranges were covered with snow this morning, and the Gisborneites found the weather cold. A genial sun disSpclled the chill, and the remainder of the day was beautifully fine. The local players took the visitors round to familiarise them with the course. The Poverty Bay players were delighted with the beautiful expanse of turf hiki. Though there are some formidable sand bunkers to negotiate, the lies through the green are good, and the Gisborne men should play above home form on such a fine course. The match between Napier and Poverty Bay will commence at 1.30 p.m. to-morrow, the Wilson Cup competition being played simultaneously. Poverty Bay is only entering six men lor the Cup contest. Napier is putting a particularly strong team in the field, and the local men are confident that they will wipe out their recent severe defeat at Gisborne. Dodgshun did a good round of 82 this afternoon, and Geoff. Willock handed in an 86 card this morning. Kapi Tarelia, playino- a round with Pare Keiha, did a capital round of 79 after lunch. ' Herd and McCormick, the Napier and Gisborne coaches, will play a 36hole match for a purse to-morrow, and a good deal of interest in being manifested in the meeting of the two professionals. The Napier Golf Club are treating the visitors most hospitably, and entertain them at luncheon and afternoon tea each day in the pavilion. To-night the visitors are the guests of Mr. N. Kettle at his private residence. Mr. Kettle lias done a great deal to make the Gisborne golfers’ stay a most pleasant one.
