CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. ■ The New Zealand Grand National meeting was continued to-day in fine but cold'weather. The attendance was again large, and there was some capital racing. -There were several spills, but the only rider to sustain injury was J. Pine, who broke his collar-bone when Claremont fell at the last fence in the Spreydon Haclc Hurdles. The to tali sator investments amounted to £19,849, as against £19,239 last year, and bookmakers were present in strong force. The results were'as follows: —

Hunt Club Cup, of 130 sovs, about 3 miles—Lovell 12.13 1, Deerslayer 11.3 2, Stormy Petrel 10.12 3. Also started:Gammon 11.2, Glengariff 10.13, Arty 10.11, Matengatenga 10.0, Pretoria 10.0, Puzzler 10.0, and Bess 10.0. Won very easily. Besides the placed horses only Bess finished. Time, 6min 'lB 3-osec.

Sumner Handicap, of 130 sovs, 1 mile.—Whistlecraft 10.9 1, Wet Day 9.10 2, Merry Lass 9.0 3. Also started: Continuance 10.8, Inclibonny 10.2, Chiarnian 9.10, Bountiful 9.6, Sant Rosaleer 9.4, Waiata 9.4, Rangikipua 9.0, and Adjudge 9.0. Won easily by three lengths. Time, lmin 44 4-ssec. Grand National Hurdle Race, of 1000 sovs, about 2 Compass, 10.8 1 Pikopo, 9.10 V. ••• 2 Ben Jenson, 11.4 3 —Also started: Exmoor 11.0, Taura 10.8, Gold Dust 10.7, Auralus 10.6, Scotty 10.0,- Lion Heart 9.13, Ringman 9.8, Southern Cross 9.2, Showman 9.0, Pukenui 9.0, and Whatakara 9.0. Auratus set out to make the running, and led along the back from Ben Jonson, Compass and Pikopo ._ Half a mile from home Ben Jonson headed Auratus, but was at once challenged by Pikopo, who led at the last fence. Compass then put in his claim, and won by two lengths, Ben Jonson a. langth and a halfvjurther back and Auratus fourth. Time, 3min 45 3-ssec. Beaufort Steeplechase, of 350 sovs,, about 24 miles.—El Dorado 10.5 1, Capitol 11.5 2, Wanganui 9.13 3. Also started: Eurus 11.8, Moccasin 10.10, Mooslien 9.7, and Diplomatic 9.7. Won comfortably by three lengths. Time, smin 6 2-ssec. Spreydon Hack Hurdle Race, of 130 sovs, If miles. —Polyanthus 10.3 1, Slaney 9.3 2, Lapland 10.3 3. Also started: Claremont 10.12, Kelso 9.13, Grosvenor 9.0, and Blythe Boy 9.0. Won by two and a half lengths. Time 3m in 23 3-ssec. Islington Handicap, of 200 sovs., 1 mile. —Gwendolina 10.4 1, Grenadier 10.13 2, Merrie Zealand 10.7 3. Also started: North-east 11.0, St. Aidan 10.5, Longner 10.3. Waikaraka 10.1, 1, Disdain 9.13, King Post 9.11, All Guns 9.9, Stratagem 9.7, Tikitero 9.5 White Cockade 9.2, and Monkey Puzzle 9.0 Won by a length and a half. Time, lmin 43sec. Woolston Plate, of 100 sovs, weight 9st, 6 furlongs..—Zetland 1, Gold Braid 2, Equivocate 3. Also started: Cashier, Pronoun, Bravery, Knastikoff, Little Fairy, and Shillelagh.
