United Press Association —Coi’Vuigiit LONDON, Aug. 12. The cricket experts in the newspapers heartily congratulate the Australians on their brilliant performances in the test matches. They eulogise Noble’s splendid captaincy, and generally condemn the bad management in the selection of the English team, especially in not playing a fast bowler. The “Express,” commenting on the cricketers, says: ‘AW have become too dependent on veterans.” • The “Field” declares: “The English wicket wants* new blood. To-day must be leavened" with to-morrow as well as yesterday. /

THE WEST OF ENGLAND MATCH HE ANY SCORING BY THE HOME „ TEAM. The .match against a West of England eleven commenced at Exeter, the English team being: Blackpool, W. Douglas, J. Crawford, V. Crawford, Shields, Buckenham, King, Jaycs, Knight, Reeves, and Col. MoGahey. There rvere 8000 spectators present. There, was fine Aveather, though it was ■windy. . The Avicket Avas good, McGahey AA'on the toss and elected to bat. Armstrong, Laver/ Bardsley, Macartney, and Cotter were omitted from the Australian team. At the tea adjournment no Avickets had fallen, the total standing at 249, Douglas 97, Knight 142. Douglas gave a display of all-round hitting, and Knight of cutting and leg hitting. The latter gave a chance to Hansford in the slips off O’Connor when ho had scored 33. Douglas played A-ery sound cricket. He gave a chance to Trumper in the slips off O’Connor Avlien he had scored 77. England has lost three Avickets for 379, the scores being :
