HAWKE’S BAY EDUCATION BOARD

ORDINARY MEETING

(Special to “Times.”) NAPIER, August ( 16. At the meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board to-day, Sir William Russell was unanimously elected chairman. All the members spoke in high terms of the manner in which he had conducted the business of the Board. Messrs McLeod (North Ward). Hunter (South Ward), and Whittington (Central Ward) took their seats on the Board. Te Ixaraka School: Mr. Darton’s report was approved; £lO were authorised for levelling, £7 for fencing, and £5 for- drainage, and a new outhouse was authorised. The Board took strong exception to this school being closed for a fortnight while being painted, without the Board being notified. It was decided that the time must be deducted from the regular holidays. Gisborne School: £4B was authorised for new partition in the infant- school, and £lO5 was authorised for general improvements to school grounds. Patutahi School: The architect was instructed to have new closets erected, the cost not to exceed £23. Milt-own: The residents forwarded full particulars of the number of children likely U> attend. It was decided to recommend the Department to make a grant for the erection of a full school: Kanakanaia School: As soon as arrangements can he made for a site, an application to be made to the Department for a school. Kaiti School: Chimneys to be attended to. Wairoa School: Application to be made to the Department for a grant for rebuilding this school, which was recently destroyed by fire. The chairman was authorised to make inquiries as to obtaining a more suitable site. Miss Adams was granted leave of absence through ill-health. The school at the railway works, Otoko, will be opened this month. Tho appointment of a teacher was left in the hands of the chairman.
