LONDON MARKETS. United Press Association—Copyriguh LONDON, August 15. Fair business is being done on the Bradford wool market. Forties sell at forty-sixes 14|d, common sixties 2o|d, super 26|d, sixty-fours 27^d. The brilliant weather and low American prices and the pressure to sell new Russian and Canadian grain are combining to depress the markets, and there is little inquiry for cargoes. There is a small demand for Australian on spot at 45s 3d, New Zealand long-berry 455, short-berry 44s 6d. For oats there is a fair inquiry, and for New Zealand 20s 8d to 21s 3d is paid. For Gartons and Sparrowbills bynear steamers 19s 6d to 20s is asked, for July shipments. There is a fair trade in La Plata oats at 16s 9d. The butter market is quiet and unchanged. There is no demand for colonial, and the shipment by the Pericles has all been stored. THE HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLEGRAM. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 16. The High Commissioner’s cable, dated London, 14th August, states: There has been no alteration in the mutton market since last week. Canterbury is at 2£d, North Island 2ld. The lamb market is demoralised. Stocks on hand are heavy, and widely distributed amongst agents, who are pushing Bales. The average price of Canterbury is 3&d, North Island 2fd. The beef market is firm. Supplies of American chilled beef are small. New Zealand hindquarters are at 3|d, forequarters 2|d. The butter market is firm, with increasing demand for better grades. Choicest New Zealand 109 s, nominal Danish 114 s, Siberian 10s. The cheese market is firm, with a tendency in favor of buyers. New Zealand is at 60s.
The hemp market is very firm. There is very little New Zealand offering. Reports from Manila indicate large business. New Zealand hemp, good fair grade on spot, and current Manila on spot is at £25 10s: September to December shipments of New Zealand, good fair grade, per ton £25; fair grade £24; fair current Manila £25. The Manila output for the week was 17,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. It is reported that the American crop is large, and of average quality. The average price for New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, on spot, is 66s per cwt (nominal). The wool market is firm, with more inquiry. Bradford tops are quoted as follows: 36’s (low crossbreds) 4 o !s Is 04d, 44’s (medium crossbreds) Is 50’s (halfbreds) Is breds) Is 10d, 60’s (merinos) 2s 2id. The hop market is firm, and prices continue to advance.
