THE OFFICIAL INQUIRY. CAPTAIN AND OFFICERS EXONERATED. United Press Association —Copyright (Received August 17, 11.35 p.m.) LONDON, August 17. The official inquiry showed that the cause of the Maori disaster was an abnormal inset due to the heavy gale. The captain and officers were exonerated. A LIST OF THE MISSING. (Pei- Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 17. The following is a list of those of the Maori’s crew missing: Deck Department. —Captain Nicole, Pearce, Ilawlinson, Probyn, Lines, Corbing, Stycli, Inch, Hart, Pope, Gladman, Bartlett, Loney' and Cox. Engine Department.—Calvert, Beak, Brady, Amridge, Fenwick, Hooper, Gunn, Smith, Heighton, Goodwin, Wilson, and Tasdevin. Stewards. —Hides, Anderson, Adi son, and Archer.
Besides these, the refrigerating engineer, Mr. Hutchinson, and a greaser named Devil’s, are known to be drowned.
