TARANAKI OIL FIELDS-
FURTHER SATISFACTORY REPORTS. 1 t — ’(Per Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH. August 17. Developments on the Taranaki Company’s oil field at Moturoa are very encouraging. The company is testing the lower levels of No. 3 bore, and this morning, at a depth of 2678 feet- (fully 400 ft lower than the previous bores), a blow-out occurred, an enormous pressure of gas blowing out of the bore all dav, and the manager, Mr. Simpson, by* the use of a pump, has obtained a fair quantity of petroleum of apparentlv very fine quality. The well at present seems almost free from water. The position is interesting as showing that the assumption was wrong that there was no oil to be obtained at a greater depth than between 2000 and 2300 f- Further reports are being awaited with interest. The conditions at No. 2 bore, where a steady yield of 15 barrels per day is being procured for some’ weeks, and experiments with a view to increasing the yield to 50 barrels daily are now being carried out, are ‘ equally satisfactory.
