MAT AW HERO STOCK SALES. Tliere was a good 'attendance of buyers at the fortnightly sale of stock held at Matawhero yesterday and sellers met a firm market, especially for wethers andfhoggets, the latter now being almost classed as 2-tooths, Wethers sold up to 13s and hoggets 11s, prices in advance of the rates ruling for many months past. Many of the young sheep carried heavy fleeces and their wool probably enhanced their value. There were a few ewes and lambs in the pens, but as the lambing season has only just commenced values could not be correctly judged. Beef did not sell at high rates, but there was nothing approaching a set back in the cattle market, the quotations being fair prices for the quality of the pens on offer. SHEEP. The yarding of sheep was over 4000, hoggets being most in evidence. In l'ats 22 wethers topped the market at 13s, and 10 hoggets at 11s; hut, the samples could not be classed as prime. Other good lines were: 21 ewes at 12s, 14 wethers 12s, 20 forward ewes 8s 6d, 10 forward ewes 10s, and 22 well-con-ditioned wethers 11s 9d. In the store pens 67 ewes sold at 7s 7d, and 20 at 9s with a few pens of lower values. Hoggets changed owners readily, the principal pens being 66 woolly sorts at 9s, 244 forward woolly sorts at 10s 9d, 10 good sorts at 10s lOd, and a nice pen of 199 at 10s. A. pen of 400 changed hands at 8s 9d, but a better price might have been obtained had the lot been subdivided. A pen of ewes with lambs sold at 8s 3d, decidedly under true value. CATTLE. The cattle pens were well stocked, the total yarding being about 500 head. Beef bullocks met with 'keen competition. The following being the quotations for butchers supplies: 1 beef bullock £6, 5 fat bullocks £5 Is, 10 young forward steers £4 10s, 2 forward heifers at £3 ss, 2 at £3 7s 6d, and 4 cows at £4 15s, and 4 killable cows at £4 2s 6d. In stores 28 young steers sold at £4, 17 big steers at £4 ss, 6 springer heifers at £4 ss, 9 steers at £3 17s 6d. 6 small steers £2 17s 6d, 12 young steers at £1 17s, 15 heifers in poor condition £1 9s, 9 heifers at £2 16s, 13 well forward steers at £5 Is. PIGS. Thgere was a good demand for pigs. 1 sow and litter of 3 sold at 355; porker sfrom 20s to -255, and weaners from 14s to 16s. THE WHEAT MARKET.
