FIRE AT WAIKANAE BEACH.

COTTAGE DESTROYED. At a,quarter past 3 this morning an alarm of lire was rung, the cause being the burning of a six-roomed house on the Waikanae beach,occupied by a family of Maoris. The house was destroyed, and the occupants had a narrow escape. Very little furniture or effects were saved. ’ The fire was not seen till it had obtained a strong hold or the house, and the cause could not be ascertained. The Fire Brigade were soon on tho scene, but were not able to do anything owing to the strong hold the fire had obtained. The bouse and contents were said to be insured for £SOO in the Guardian Office.
