The pitch was slow and easy The first wicket went for 26, Hartigan sending an easy catch to Board at mid-off. Bardsley and Ransford became associated. Both pljtyed free cricket. The century was hoisted in 77 minutes. Bardsley’s half century took 95 minutes to make. When lie had scored 66 he was taken low 'down at slip. He batted 125 minutes, and gave an all-round display . He hit five fourers. The partnership lasted 90 minutes. Two for 180. The second century appeared after 154 minutes’ play. Ransrord was brilliant all round, especially fine in cutting and driving, lie made 50 in 58 minutes, and the centurv in 100 minutes. He gave a chance to Brownlee, off F. Roberts, when 57. He was altogether 130 minutes at the wickets, and goto thirteen fourers. Three for 220. Excepting Gregory, who was careful, Dennett made short work of the others. The fourth wicket fell for 224, the fifth for 230, and the sixfor 233, and the seventh for 238. Hopkins and Whitty were both taken in the slips. There were 1000 people present. Bardsley, the Australian cricketer denies that he has been asked to qualify for Northamptonshire, as reported.
