A DARING BURGLARY.
AT LONDON JEWELLER’S WAREHOUSE. FAITHFUL WATCHMAN CAUSES THIEVES’ ARREST. United Prssk Association— CopYitioni (Received August 23, 9.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 23. By using a duplicate key, ten smartly-dressed men entered Mappin and Webb’s warehouse in Cheapside on Sunday afternoon, and with a jemmy assaulted the watchman to prevent him giving an alarm, inflicting serious wounds on his head. Five of the men escaped. The watchman crawled to the entrance and shouted “Police. ’ ’ Five others, emerging with, several, thousand pounds’ worth:-of jewellery and plate, were arrested. They had in their pockets masks and gloves, the latter being intended to conceal tbeir finger prints. Seven thousand pounds worth of goods were found packed on the premises ready for removal. The capture is regarded as of considerable importance. - -
