THE HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE.
(Per Press Association..' WELLINGTON, August 23. The High Commissioner’s cable from London, dated August' 21, states: The mutton market is weak. There is a better demand for light-weight Canterbury at 3d to 2£d, according to quality; North Island, 2jd to 2d. The lamb market ie depressed, the result of heavy arrivals. Canterbury is at 3sd per lb for light weight, and for heavy weight 2^d. The beef market is firm, with no change in prices. New Zealand hindquarters are at 3§d, forequarters 2|d. The butter market is firm. There is a good demand for Danish at 116 s; Siberian 103 s. The cheese market is steady, with a moderate demand. New Zealand is quoted at 555. The hemp market is firm, but there is little doing. New Zealand, good, fair, on spot, is at £26 per ton; fair grade, £25; September to December shipments, i' New Zealand, good, fair grade, £25 10s; fair grade, £24 10s (quotations nominal). The Manila output last week was 29,000 bales. The wool market is firm, with an upward tendency. The hop market is firm, with an improved demand.
The case, Gorlitz v. Kubelik, m which £3OOO damages arc claimed, tor alleged breach, of agreement to appoint plaintiff as manager for defendant durjno- Australasian tour, was called on at the Supreme Court this morning. The case was ordered to stand over, with a view of a • private Settlement boing effected. .
