The “Times,” commenting on the passing of the Irish Land Bill in three hours following the first fall of the guillotine, said the House was asked to legislate at the rate of five clauses per hour, or one per twelve minutes. DEBATE ON IRISH LAND BILL. IMPORTANT CLAUSES RUSHED THROUGH. (Received August 25, 8.35 p.m.) LONDON, August 25. The debate on the Irish Land Bill was continued in the House of Com mons. The most important clauses, including those empowering the States Commissioners to compulsorily acquire estates or untenanted land, were carried under the guillotine, without discussion.
