THE BOROUGH COUNCIL AND* . HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

[To thu Editor.] Sir, —I think all reasonable and sensible men would read with great satisfaction your leader in Thursday’s issue, commenting on the extraordinary performance of a section of the Borough Council in their relations with their representatives on the Board' of Hospital Trustees. It is positively delicious to read the pious utterances of Or. Kirk about the “dignity and selfrespect” of the Council, just when they were throwing both to the winds by their action towards two gentlemen who have all along acted with perfect dignity and propriety. Having had the honor of sitting on the Board of Trustees with Mr. Bright and Air. Alann, I know something of their great ability and their devotion to the welfare of the hospital, and I am not the only one who lias to confess to a feeling of pity and contempt for such behavior as a majority of the Council has seen fit to adopt towards them,, led, of course, by the arrogant and characteristic action of the Alayor. In his wisdom he has forgotten that Alessrs Bright and Alann are not delegates, but representatives, and are on the Board simply to administer wisely the affairs of a large and most important institution, and are not to be at the beck and call of every petty-foggmg local politician, who wants to pose as a champion of “dignity and self-respect.” The present position and good name of the hospital are the highest proof of ..the eminent capacity of the gentlemen sitting on the Board of Trustees, and I venture to hope that the ungenerous and rather nauseating behavior of a certain section of the Council will receive the contempt and condemnation it deserves. —I am, etc., HOWARD KENWAY.
