The Postmaster-General states that £1,833,000 will be required to bring the telegraphic and telephonic services up to date. A MISAPPROPRIATION CASE. . BRISBANE, August 27. At the Police Court Charles John Lindley was remanded to Tuesday on a charge of stealing £234, the property of the trustees of the late Andrew Lees, at Dunedin. A constable from New Zealand stated that when he read the original warrant to accused, the latter said he intended te plead guilty and get it over. SHIPWRECK LOSSES THIS MONTH (Received August 29, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 28. Underwriters’ losses from shipwrecks during August are estimated at a million sterling.
