GISBORNE CLUS

The first meeting of . the newlyelected committteo of the Gisborne Rowing Club was held at the Gisborne Club last night, Mr. C. J. Hamilton (captain) presiding. It was decided to allow defaulting members a fortnight in which to pay their arrears, and to forward to the Hawke’s Bay Sports Protection Association the names of those in default at the expiration of that time. . The following-* new members were elected: Messrs F. H. W. Traill, A. R. Gatland, P. . Wyllie W. Reddell, A. deLautour, A. G. Williams, and W. F. Crawford (honorary member). Messrs C. J. Hamilton, W. Johnston, C. Muir, and G. PufLett were appointed a sub-committee to draw up conditions in connection with the competition for the eup presented by Mr. Chas. Muir. The following standing sub-commit-tees were appointed:— Finance. —-Messrs L. F. Williams, J. M. Curtis, and A. Coleman. Works. —Messrs W. Johnston, C. Muir, and G. Puflett. Racing.— Messrs E. Swmnerton, G. Rowe, and C. Sargisson. / The naming of the new boats was deferred to a future meeting. . It was agreed that the opening of the rowing season should take place on Thursday "September 23, provided thin that date.is convenient for the Poverty Bay Rowing Club. ... , The captain (Mr. C. J. Hamilton) and the hon. secretary (Mr. D. Cowan) were appointed to draft proposals ior submission to the Licensed Victualler Shield Committee, with the view ol including the Uawa and.Wairoa Rolling Clubs in the competition. The captain announced that preparation of the shed and plant for the incoming season was well advanced, and it was hoped that an early start would be made with rowing. It was decided to make a presentation to Mr. W. H. Bowler, of Wellington, in recognition of his kindness m supervising the building of the club s new boats.
