A MUNIFICENT OFFER.
FOR AN EXPERIMENTAL FARM. P?er Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 31. A deputation from the South Wairarapa waited on the Hon. T. Mackenzie to-day, and urged him to accept the offer of Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., of £6OOO to purchase a. stock and experimental farm in the South Wairarapa. The Minister expressed high, appreciation of the generosity, and; jjointed out that the Weraroa experimental farm was already doing good work, and was well stocked. He suggested that it would be more advisable to devote such a large sum of money, or any other sum, to experiments in connection with seeds, cereal production, etc. rather than duplicate the efforts the Government had already made in the experimental direction. Incidentally, he mentioned that the upkeep of a' farm like that suggested would run into £2OOO per year. The Minister promises to confer with Mr Buchanan on the subject.
