CHARITY ORGANISATION
AN ASSOCIATION FORMED IN CHRISTCHURCH.

A meeting of -the Christchurch Benevolent Association was held to-day, the Mayor presiding. A report was submitted which made the following recommendations—(l) That an Association be set up, to be composed of representatives from each of the charitable organisations in the citv of Christchurch. to be called the Christchurch Benevolent Association; (2) that the special function of the society shall be to collect information respecting persons in need or applying for charitable assistance, to prevent, as far as possible, the distribution of charitable relief to unworthy persons. The report was adopted, and there was a general expression of satisfaction that the Association had been fqirly started. The opinion was expressed that it could prevent a good deal of overlapping in the distribution of charitable relief. It was suggests that the coal and blanket fund should be administered through the medium of the Association. It was resolved to ask the various churches and charitable organisations (including the Charitable Aid Board) to appoint representatives on the Association.
