THE WOOL MARKET.
Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following report, dated 23rd July, from their London house, Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co.: Wool.—The fourth series of colon, rd wool sales which opened on the 6th July came to a close on the 20th The* attendance has been large and competition, although lacking in the keenness displayed at the May sales, fairly good. . With the exception of good greasy combing wools, prices for merino wool generally have ruled lower than at the previous series. Medium and faulty greasies, and medium to good scon reds showed a decline of 5 per cent., while inferior seoureds were 71 to 10 per cent, lower. Fine greasy crossbreds in light condition were in keen demand on American account, while wasty fine quality wools, meeting with very strong competition from the Home and Continental buyers, have occasionally soM slightly above May rates. Medium crossbreds generally were 5 per cent, lower, although on wools of the class in which America was operating last series, the decline was often more. Coarse greasies lost ground from tha opening, and at the close were 7| to 10 per cent, lower than in May, inferior wools showing most decline. Except the finest sorts, which were 5 per cent, lower, all sliped and scoured crossbreds have sold with some irregularity at from 7£ to 10 per cent, below May closing rates. Prices for merino lambs’ wool were practically unchanged, but crossbreds were weaker, coarse shabby sorts showing a decline of 7\ to 10 per cent.
