A LAND CASE. [Per Press Association.! PALMERSTON N., Sept. 3. After a hearing extending over three days, the case of Thomson v. Mason was concluded to-day. The plaintiff claimed for the recision of a contract to purchase 365 acres at Manakau, on the ground that the boundaries had been wrongly indicated, and that there was much more, swamp land in the block than he was led to expect, or, alternatively, for £I2OO damages. The special jury, after a retirement of an hour, returned & verdict for the plaintiff for £BOO and costs on the highest scale. Leave to appeal for a new trial was granted. NEW ESTATES. WELLINGTON, September 3. During July the new estates placed under the Public Trustee for administration exceeded the average for a month by nearly double. This record, however,' was beaten during August, during which month 171 new estates came into the office. AGRICULTURAL LABORERS’ UNION. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 3. At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Laborers’ Industrial Union, it was decided to call a special meeting to consider financial arrangements with a view to taking a case before the Conciliation Council. UNEMPLOYMENT IN CHRISTCHURCH. Mr, W. Hagger, officer in charge of the local bureau of the Labor Department, states that the. labor market is in a quiescent condition. There are very few indications of unemployment, while at the same time there are very few demands for workers reaching the office. Mr. Hagger is of opinion that many of the men who were unemployed in’ July were simply unablb, owing to weather conditions, to follow theS* usual avocations. With the advent of spring they have gone back to their former employment. .
