CONVENTION AT WELLINGTON. TPer Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. The New Zealand Christian Endeavor Convention commenced in Wellington to-day, the Rev. J. T. Penfold, M.A., presiding. The report referred to the organisation work recently carried out. It was regretted that nothing; definite had been done in connection with the formation of an Otago Provincial Union. Matters concerning the formation of a correspondence school were now ready for serious consideration by the Council. The Wellington Union had now 1962 members, Dunedin 1377, Canterbury 1341, Auckland 1284, Manawatu 608, Otago 382, Gore 295* West Coast 164, Southland 154, and Clutha 105. Total, 7672, as compared with 7864 in 1905. Financial contributions averaged 10s Sd per capita. The report will be considered tomorrow.
A citizens’ meeting was held tonight, addresses being delivered by the Rev. JT. T. Penfold, Dr. Newman (Mayor of Wellington), the Re r. E. Randy (Dunedin), the Chinese Consul, and the Rev. E. A. Kirk rood (Auckland).
