CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC
DEPUTATION TO HON. G. FOWLDS.
TPer. Prebs Association.! AUCKLAND, Sept, 7. A deputation from the Auckland Society of Musicians waited on the Hon. G. Fowlds and protested against a proposal to establish a oonservatorium of music in New Zealand, on the ground that it could not be made a financial success. They also asked that the Musicians Bill should receive the support of the Government in the coming session. They said they considered the present system of teaching singing in public schools resulted in the voices of many children being ruined. The Minister said the Government at present were not looking for any fresh channel of expenditure. He had no personal objection to the Musicians Bill. He was strongly adverse to the appointment of teachers of singing in public schools. Primary school teachers should do all the teaching necessary.
