MONTHLY MEETING. •y
The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held on Thursday afternoon in the schoolroom of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Mrs. A. Graham presided, and there was a good attendance of members. _ A vote of thanks and appreciation of the services of Mrs, K. L. Stevenson during her recent visit to Gisborne was passed unanimously, Mrs. Stevenson having delivered in all eight lectures on the ednc'ational side of temperance reform. . ,' ' : Reports wCrp received from the Literature and Visiting Committees and the treasurer, and it was decided to accept an invitation from the Women’s “Guild to join with that body in celebrating franchise day. It was "decided that an- effort be made to start a branch for Maori women in connection with the local Union, and'that as Miss, Stirling would be visiting Gisborne shortly, her help and co-operation in the movement be asked for! • Some. discussion took place, on Dr. Batchelor’s report to. the Society for the Promotion of Health of Women and Children, and it was agreed that a copy of Dr. Emily Siedeborg’s reply be procured and read at next meeting of the Union. . ■ - . , The meetings of the Umonar© /held, at ,3 p.m. .on the second Thursday in each< month. -;>'►> , ’■ f jj ; ■ V' !
